Sinusitis seriously lowers the quality of life of a child. The child’s sleeping routine changes. It can also negatively affect the school success. If the symptoms of sinusitis lasts longer than 3 months, it means that there is a risk of chronic sinusitis. If your child has symptoms of chronic sinusitis, you should consult your otorhinolaryngologist immediately. Drugs can be used in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. However, according to the doctor’s opinion, surgery may be necessary. However, in general, the surgery option is preferred if no results are obtained from the drug treatment.

Acute Sinusitis-Recurrent Acute Sinusitis-Chronic Sinusitis

Acute sinusitis is a condition in which the symptoms of a simple cold do not disappear in a normal time or disappear more difficult than normal.

Recurrent acute sinusitis is a condition if acute sinusitis occurs more than 3 times in a year. Recurrent acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis should be separated. Because at least one week, the symptoms must be lost in order to be able to be diagnosed as not having a disease otherwise the disease will never be healed and the name of the disease will be chronic sinusitis rather than recurrent acute sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis is a condition in which symptoms such as nasal discharge and congestion last for more than 12 weeks.

Treatment of sinusitis in children is usually drugs. However, surgery is needed especially in situations where abscesses occur around the eyes and if there is not a respond to drug treatment. The goal in surgery is to clean the sinuses.

However, acute sinusitis may be caused by tonsil and adenoid. Due to sinusitis and other problems caused by these problems, tonsil and adenoid surgeries are recommended by experts as treatment. If sinusitis is chronic, only tonsil or adenoid surgery is no longer enough.

As you can see, sinusitis in children is a discomfort that should not be missed and should be treated immediately. Parents should not ignore the symptoms.
